This is a great example of where you could ask “what happened to you” instead of “what’s wrong with you” (reference from Drs. Bruce Perry and Gabor Mate). We are so quick to blame people for what we believe are shortcomings instead of looking at the circumstances that brought them to this juncture, and our contribution to these.
